Picked up this Portuguese white blend at Kafka Wines on Halsted, which features 250 wines under $15.00, including a number of wines I've enjoyed for some time. I found this particular white from the Douro Valley pleasant but unremarkable, perhaps even easy to forget. It's pale in color and light in the mouth, with hints of citrus. The nose has a floral component to it. On the back end, there is a secondary flavor which comes on strong, but I can't seem to identify it. At first I thought I enjoyed this finish--it does linger for a few seconds--but after a few glasses, it began to be overpowering, reminding me of an over-oaked wine that's just a little too much (this wine was aged in stainless steel vats). In a pinch this is a drinkable, interesting white blend in small amounts...but by no means a Must Try, in my opinion.
